Thanks Yogi. Love the hand and thanks so much for sending this. I will have fun making my piece featuring my granddaughters I have three sweet girls and saved some of their hair and plan to use some of their curls in the piece as well. I love visiting your web site as I get immediately inspired! I will visit often.

Hi
I think your water color calligraphy is absolutely stunning. I adore water color but I've never seen it used this way.

Do you ever accept commisions? By that I mean if I have a word I would like painted in watercolor caligraphy could you let me know how much it would cost?

It's really just absolutely beautiful
I live in california; I don't know where you're based... But please let me know of this is possible
I can tell you specifics if it's something you do!
Thank you so much
Maggie

Comment: Hi Yogi: I have met you a few times at Paper Pastimes in Calgary, I am from Brooks, and have always admired your amazing talent. Somewhere recently I read where someone was commenting on your using stencils with glitter. Do you have an area where I could go to see this technique or could you give me a hint or two. It sounds very interesting and I have a lot of stencils that would be nice to use. Thanks for any info you can give me. Regards, Maxine Krafft.

Comment: Hi Yogi -
I am Mickey Weitsen from Covington, LA.
Used to be really into calligraphy, then advanced to pottery in my own studio. Recently, I became certified as a Zentangle (www.zentangle.com) teacher so I could teach as well as draw the patterns on my pottery. After a recent advanced class, I was thinking that it would be nice to show the student the neuland hand, as its open letterforms allow you to tangle your pattern within the letter boundaries (or around the boundaries). In searching the internet for "Neuland alphabet" I tripped over your lovely booklet that you made in Roann Mathias' class ( I know her mother, Ann Rabinovitz and have met Roann on a number of occasions- small world). Anyway, I wanted to use the photos of your booklet to give the class so they could see how the letters can tumble. Can I get your permission to do this?
Just a thought on my end - your forms are so lovely and much more interesting than the Speedball exemplar.
thanks -
Mickey

Comment: Hello Yogi,
Just saw your work on line through Quietfire which I've recently subscribed to. I am an artist and calligrapher in Ontario and would like to know if you know where I can find instructions on the 'cola can ruling pen'; I would really like to try it and see references to it in various publications but have searched and cannot find anything about how to make one on the internet. Any help would be very appreciated.

PS seeing your work makes me wish I lived nearer to take your classes- would definitely love to take the 'versals' one.

Not sure how to leave a comment on your blog as I've never done one before, but I did visit and admire.

Cheers, Fiona

I've been scanning your site and just wanted to tell you how beautiful and inspiring your artwork is. I am enrolled in your Versals class, (Nov. 28), in High River and looking forward to it very much now that I have seen some of the lovely things that can be applied to our projects.

I am especially attracted to your Journals as I have been interested in taking a course in Bookbinding; can you tell me where I would go to take such a course or would you be interested in teaching one in High River?

Kindest Regards,

Gloria McGowan

Comment: Hi Yogi,
I am respectfully writing to you in regards to your beautiful talent in card making...I am stitchy from Digital-Ink, Co. and have been coming to your blog every time I see your name go up for our challenge...I wanted to ask you a personal favor...your cards really intrigue me and I was wondering if you would do one of my stamps for me...I'm trying to fill up my album as much as I can and I know we have a DT over there at the store (which by the way are all wonderful designers too) but we are limited to what they do.. simply meaning we all have to take turns lol...anyway, the stamp would be of course free of charge, I will email it to you...I had one in particular in mind and if you do this one stamp, in return, I will give you a stamp of your choice from my store...does that sound fair? I of course would want a picture of the card with your choice of stamp too lmao...

Let me know what you think about this deal...there is no time limit, it is at your leisure, so no hurry.

Thanks in advance even if you choose not to do this

First of all thank you for visiting my blog and also for your nice comment on my ceramic books. Now let me tell you that because of you I have not been working today in the office (lol) cause I got lost into your blog.

Good lord! I was totally stunned by your art and as a minibook lover I do not have the words to tell you how much I love your work.

And to name just a few: Your ATCs cricut and bugs - the wed sampler dreams - I was drooling over your handbound journals (my favorites)- your garden entry for the CBH challenge and babbling over your perpetual calendars - last but not least your acrylics and mash and also the card "Renate Thanks"  Yeah! what can I say...I have spent hours on your site. I have altered few canvases but the ones I saw on your site top them all and really sparkle my creative juice.

I became a follower and will check your blog pretty often. Some of us are creative and others are talented, well you got both creativity and talent and god bless you for it. Please keep delighting us

Congratulations on such great job you do and sharing it with us is even greater.

 You rock! Shallale

I just love all your work, you are such a very talented lady!!! I have light years to go before I can even begin to come close to creating what you have.

Where do you find all your time to do these things? Are you a teacher or do you give classes?

Just wanted to send you a note and let you know I love your work, I'm sure many have sent the same sentiments to you.

Dear Yogi:
I am a member of Nib 'n' Inks, the calligrapraphy guild of Olympia, Washington. We will celebrate our 30th year in June 2010. Can't believe all the lettering that has passed through my fingers since then.

At any rate, loved your site and it's now bookmarked. I also just recently joined the Quietfire list, but have yet to submit anything. It's quite inspiring however, as is Suzanne's website. I love having the internet to share ideas by.

Keep up the great work. Thanks again,

Elizabeth

All I can say is WOW! I have spent a long time looking at your website in AWE! You are one, talented and creative lady. So many things, too numerous to mention. I guess my favorites have been the calligraphy reviews of workshops, plus all your fabulous books that you've made!

Thanks for sharing with the world!!

I think I came across your site after doing a Google for ABC and ATC cards, as our local calligraphy guild is thinking of such a project!

So glad I stumbled upon your site!

I was just touring your web site and came across your Sculpey ATCs. I am wondering a few things as I create mine a bit different... I love them. I have bee creating more ATCs and use it as a form of exploration into future works... anytime you want to trade just let me know.

Why sand?

H20s I guess I will have to find out what they are?

Embossing powder... Do you use a heat fun after put them on your piece? even after glazing them?

What glaze do you use: I use the one for Sculpey.. but arer there others.

Thanks for your detailed notes with all your art.

Lynda

Thanks

Good morning Yogi

I was checking daily after Carrie's workshop to see if you had time to work on your "studies"  and I was so glad that I checked your Web Pages.  Jackie Doll, a member from Edmonton said that she really enjoyed Carrie's class as well.  I think for her the pen manipulations was the most challenging as well. I just tried holding a pencil in my hand, the way Carrie did and it feels o.k.
How did you get the two different colors in the study "believe"  using the stimudent? We got snow here yesterday, and I know Calgary did as well, son lives there,  Sun is Shinning in Sherwood Park today.
Have a great calligraphy day.

The calligraphy, particularly the Kersal is so inspirational, I love the 'casualness' of it after the restriction of traditional calligraphy. Wish I hadn't seen your Dreams one though as the Society of Scribes and Illuminators lay members day project is Sweet Dreams.  We have to produce something on a 5 inch square that we associate with bedtime.  All the squares will then create a patchwork on the day.
I promise I will not use yours, but I will be using Kersals and I do have something in mind!!
I was interested in your marble backgrounds and wondered if you have ever tried shaving foam to get the same effect?
Sorry for rambling, but I find that when I come across something new I get rather carried away!!
I shall be popping back to you site to see what you are up to.
Kind regards, Jan Peel

I absolutely and sincerely have to return the compliment: you are warm and wonderful too and I learned a thing or two or three from you! LOL Thank you for the lovely postings; your work was inspiring to everyone.

The paper I used for Gail's card was Fabriano's Cartera Magnani. It is sold in a couple of art supply stores here but not in large sheets - in pre-cut card sizes and envelopes. It doesn't seem to sell well, so I thought I'd try it! I love the spring green colour but they also have lilac and pale blue I think...

I wonder what the indigo/blue Pilot parallel pen ink would look like on the black paper and if it would be enough of a contrast on the black 'Q' piece you did (and will redo)? I'd love to see what you come up with.

I'm not a big blogger (mostly because I'm technically challenged;-) but I'll keep looking for your postings.

All good things and all good thoughts to you Yogi; it was a pleasure to be with you for 4 days.

There were some pieces with your Kersals and I fell in love! They were just stunning and I came home that night and started looking through your web site. You "dabble" in so many mediums and have created so much beautiful art. I wanted to let you know you have a fan in me and I think you are so incredibly talented!

Seeing your work has sparked my calligraphic juices all over again and I hope to get pen and ink out and play a lot more. Your new fan, Deborah from Kingston, Ontario

Comment: I’ve been in your studio before but more to be boggled than necessarily to figure out what you were doing and how to imitate it.

But here’s the breakthrough as it were. When I sat beside you on the weekend I DID notice that a) as usual, I took up more than my half of the table – as usual because that always happens when I share a table with someone – I’ve got my stuff all over everywhere and b) whenever you offered me something and I used it, you took it back from wherever I put it down to put away in your stuff and then when I needed it again, you got it from where you’d put it back to and gave it to me again. The penny dropped, as it were, after I got home. It occurred to me that it’s a lot easier to put it somewhere and find it there again than it is to shuffle through what you’ve got to find it again. I’ll tell you though, it made me tired to think of all the THINKING that went into organizing that studio of yours when I looked at your pictures. I’ve got all that stuff (okay not quite that much) but I am in the process of trying to organize it and it’s a slow job with a lot of thinking to figure out what needs to go where and how to get it there. I definitely think you should turn into a consultant for organizing studios. Anyway, I just thought I’d tell you that you had an effect.

Especially, taking in more of the beauty and creativity of your greeting cards. How prolific you are!  Have noted I still have more pages to visit.

On the "Balance" piece I thought there was a typo in the description,  then smiled when I realized it was a play on words by combining Sherri Kiesel and versal to create "kersal". Very cute.
May I "steal" this title? :-)
