Tim Holtz - Creative Chemistry 101 class - Day 4  - Paint, Mist, Custom

Created: March 22, 2012
Modified: Modified March 30, 2012

I decided to take Tim's 2 week class - Chemistry 101. These samples are from Day 4.

This class uses Distress Reinkers in various ways. As a watercolor media moving the color around with a waterbrush; as a colorant in a spray bottle to mist; or as a colorant to create a custom stamp pad. I use all three techniques a lot. I remember the first time I made a custom pad years ago when I was doing one of Tim's 12 Days tag. Such a good idea then and still love it today... I have so many mini misters filled with Distress reinkers, although most of them also have some Perfect Pearls in them BIG GRIN - that's for the glitz in me.

Painting with Reinkers:

Just got this wonderful jumbo stamp - Inkadinkado "Jumbo Hollyhocks" - and had to use it for this tag. Stamped it with black Archival on the backside of cheap WC paper 90# CP

Painted mainly with Broken China, Worn Lipstick, Dusty Concord & Chipped Sapphire for the flowers, with Mustard Seed in the centers. Leaves are Crushed Olive with a touch of Forest Moss.

Stamped the word (Flourishes "Hollyhock" set) with Versafine Black Onyx. Sponged some Walnut Stain & Forest Moss on the edges. Adhered to a deep purple tag.

Layered Misting:

The first tag used what I had on hand ready mixed (Scattered Straw/Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls; Shabby Shutters/Green patina Perfect Pearls; Spun Sugar). So misted the cream toned tag and dried. Lay my Crafters Workshop stencil (Mini Cosmic Swirl) and misted with Walnut Stain/Heirloom Gold PP; Vintage Photo/Bronze PP. Stamped the quote (Quitefire Design) with Versafine black.

The tag is OK but didn't have enough zap for me so decided to fill a few bottles with better colors...

Second tag uses Mustard Seed, Barn Door & the Shabby Shutters mixture. Dried. Sprayed through stencil with the Walnut & Vintage spray mixes. Much better.

Stamped the words (Roann Mathias) and Versafine black.

Custom Stamp pad:

The first tag uses the pad direct to the manila tag, edges sponged with Walnut Stain and Forest Moss.

The second tag, I misted the inked stamp with water and stamped onto the cheap watercolor paper. Edges sponged with Vintage Photo and adhered to a dark brown tag.

Stamped the 2 butterflies and the word Papillon (Quietfire Design) onto my felt. The little quote piece is a separate felt (Stamp-It Australia)

Colors for large butterfly: Wild Honey, Mustard Seed, Barn Door, Dusty Concord & Broken China.

Small Butterfly: Broken China, Peeled Paint, Mustard Seed.

The bodies had Walnut Stain and some green fort he large BFly.

Lettering had Walnut Stain and then dabs of Black Soot.

The quote stamp had  the above colors.
