Textured Letters Booklet (Part 2)

Created: April 17, 2011

Modified:

This is the 2nd part of the booklet we created in Barbara Close's class holding the samples we made during the Monday/Tuesday class.

The background was done on a larger piece of watercolor paper and just randomly brushed with watercolors in deep shades and leaving white spaces. While wet, scored with a stylus or texture tool - similar to paste paper marking. When dry added doodles with a white pen or rubber stamped with a script stamp and white ink. Cut out a pleasing area for my letter and added the gold leaf dots and then the faux stitching.

This is something I soooo don't do, but like the end results... We drew our template stroke on a piece of paper on the front and then traced it on the back. Applied various stickers in a collage design, then using the back drawn out stroke to cut our stroke shape. adhered it to our letter. I blended some Pebbles Pearlescent chalks in the bowl of the "P" and then doodled.

I was just playing in between other demos... I doodled designs onto a piece of white cardstock using a fine tipped stylus, then using the flat of my Prisma colors colored in the areas, The pencil just skimmed over the embossed designs. I deepened the colors in corners. I then added gold leaf and the pencil shading.

I so love alcohol inks and doing on Yupo is wonderful. We again did a larger piece and found an area to use for our letter. I skimmed the edge with a Krylon gold leafing pen. I used the Krylon pen to make the rest of my letter as well, then doodled with a Micron pen. I used my pointed pen and an ArtQuest palette to do the border.

I love the way this looks like birch bark but in wonderful colors.

Using the template, swipe your color, in this case dry brush watercolors, off the edge and into your stroke shape from both sides. Blend a bit with water and just work it till you have the results you like. Shaded the top with colored pencils.
