"Primitive Series" (September 2006)

Modified: June 1, 2008

I used a Canson 90lb watercolor paper. Smeared it with Rheotech gesso using a palette knife. When dry I added washes of different browns and a bit of metallic color. I found primitive cave wall art on the net and used them as my samples.  I painted in my primitive art using a Zig black marker, and when dry used a piece of emery to lightly remove some paint. Sprayed the artwork with crystal clear. Mounted it onto 2 layers of cardstock, first a bright yellow then onto brown. Each image was inspired by artwork from thousands of years ago. I have included a little history of the story behind that artwork on the back of the card.

Kokopelli is the deity who brings the rains, fertility & good luck. He first appeared among the Anasazi during the Great Pueblo period (A.D. 1100 A.D. 1300) The przevalski horse is very small, short legs, drooping belly & broad back, named after the traveller, Przevalski, who discovered a small herd in Mongolia in 1881. The rock art inspiring this piece was made about 14,000 years ago.
