Gelli Printing WORDS & Gel Medium Resist:

Sample 17:

Write a word on tracing paper with a bullet tipped black marker. Turn tracing paper over so you have a reversed word. Tape to work surface. Lay Gelli plate on top of tracing paper also taping it down using the bottom clear protective sheet that comes with the plate.

Brayer fluid acrylics or other open time acrylics. It needs to stay wet for a while but also needs to be thin enough to see the words on the tracing paper. Cover part of the Gelli plate with one color and the other part with a 2nd color having the colors meet. Draw your word either using a Qtip or stylus following the letters on your tracing paper. Add texture or stamping etc. pull a print. You can stop here.

I cleaned my plate and then brayered another color and pulled a print using the same print again.

Colors used in sample 17: Ceramcoat Black, Folk Art Metallic Rose Shimmer. 2nd brayering Deco Art Metallic Emperor’s Gold.Brayer Gelli plate as per sample #9 using fluid acrylics, place masks all over and add textural marks. Make sure you press marks into wet paint so that they will lift the colors. Remove masks. Pull print. Brayer on the Gelli plate HEAVY body acrylic. Note if using light colors for first brayering, then use a deep color for 2nd brayering. Or visa versa. Pull print again.

Sample 18: on Arches Text Wove

Place stencil (needs to have nice size openings in the design) on Gelli plate and using a catylst applicator or plastic palette knife, smear on Golden’s soft gel medium. Impress various textures in the openings. Remove stencil and pull a print (you won’t see anything now). Allow to dry.

When dry, spritz onto paper Perfect Pearls Mist “Sunflower Sparkle”. Brayer on Gelli plate Folk Art Metallic Blue Sapphire. Pull a print with the wet misted paper. Wipe off paints from the gelled areas. Mist with the spray and pull the print again using another coat of the blue. Wipe off excess.

Sample 19:

The impression made on the Gelli plate from the gel medium design will make a nice print too. Just pull a print. Brayer on Gelli plate Silks Acrylic Glaze “Emperor’s Gold” and pull the print again.

Sample 20: on arches Text Wove

On this sample I applied the gell medium through a stencil directly to the paper Set aside to dry. Brayered Silks “Ginger Peach” & ”Nutmeg” on to Gelli plate. Pulled my stencilled paper, and cleaned off the excess paints. Brayered on Gelli plate Folk Art “Metallic Rose Shimmer” and pulled the same paper, wiped of excess.

Sample 49: on Columbia Mills LBS end paper

Brayered the gelli plate with gel medium, lay stencil down and pulled a print. set aside to dry and used Distress Stains "Victorian Violet", "Scattered Straw" "Picked Raspberry" & "Tarnished Brass".

Normally you would wipe off the paint on the gel areas, but the Tarnished Brass stuck to it leaving a tinted appearance.

Sample 50: on Columbia Mills LBS end paper

Everything the same as above except:

Stencil removed before print was pulled and did not use the Tarnished Brass
