ID: Transfer Technique journal

Book  (closed): approx 7.5"w x 5.75"h x 1" thk. (expandable)

I love this marbled paper with the huge bubble type splotches. Since my papers that I marbled were only 8.5" x 11" and I only made 1 of each, I had to be creative to get the front and back covers to look the same. So I used a direct to paper technique with a pink and a purple chalk stamp pad to color the left section (same on the back) and added a stripe with a Krylon gold leafing pen. Now the area I needed to cover could be cut from my one piece of marbled paper.

The words "Transfer Technique" were done using a toner black & white reverse text copy and soft gel medium and then applied to the cover with a thin layer of gel medium.

The book is constructed with an accordion fold spine (1/2" folds) out of a magenta colored cardstock. Instead of envelopes (which everyone else used) I decided to make library pockets instead. I used my Coluzzle template and made oversized pockets (8 total)

The pic below shows the back of the front cover. I used a second sheet of marbled paper for both the front and back, that somewhat matched the first. Cut out a slot near the spine and near the for edge for my ribbon to slip through.

I used a clear alphabet stamp set and the pink/purple chalk stamp pads to stamp my main word headings on the front of all the pockets and added the rest of the text with a black micron pen.

The Domino is made from Premo with a white and pearl color combination, toner copy and Acetone nail polish remover and glued to the page with soft gel medium.

On the back of each pocket I added a piece of the magenta cardstock and used my decorative corner punch. I copied all the instructions on a smaller scale (each technique on a new page), cropped them close, folded them and inserted them into the corners of each pocket.

The pockets hold samples that I tried of each technique.

This is the second pocket and for the word "Laugh" I used the copy from our swap last year, still worked.

These are the techniques we were taught:

Toner Copies using Solvents for both color & B&W images (Acetone Nail Polish Remover, Acetone Free nail Polish Remover, pure acetone, chartpak)

Toner copies using soft gel or Matte medium (which is thinner), both color and B&W copies and then soaked in water. It's my favorite transfer technique.

Toner copies and Packing tape then soaked in water. (I'm not too sure about the longevity of the packing tape??)

Inkjet images & soft gel or Matte medium, both color & B&W. Applying the gel on the image or on the substrate first and burnishing. Also inkjet transparency.

Inkjet images and water transfer. Inkjet using transfer liquid.

Inkjet See-Through-Label transfer (Avery), Sheer Heaven & inkjet image, Lazertran for both inkjet and toner images, Heat'n Bond

Laser images and burnishing with a wood burning tool on glass, wood fabric etc.

Liquid polymer (Liquid Sculpey)

Several of the techniques were done on fabric as well (I just can't remember which so will have to try at some time)
