This is a very
organic book with Lutradur covers which is a 100% nonwoven
polyester translucent web and is a versatile cross between
fabric and paper. I used Magic Colors in two shades of green, Sherrill's Sorbets "Lemon"; Lumiere in a gold, a halo blue green & a copper; one little corner also has some alcohol inks; Golden's Fluid acrylics in a Jenkin's Green, Indian yellow Hue & a Pyrrole Orange. Also rubber stamped the quotes (Quietfire Design) using Versafine Black onyx and clear embossing it, and a couple Rollagraph wheels, one with large block letters and the other with Chinese noodle design. The letters were gold embossed and the noodles were clear embossed. Tried a Copic marker which worked ok. Also tried some colored pencils Lyra Super Ferby in metallic colors and Prisma colors. Did some shadowing with a Sharpie fine tip black marker and a Micron pen. When everything was painted and lettered I used both an electric Creative Textile tool (which I didn't like as much) and my Heat Gun to do the "Lacing" technique which is basically melting away the material. |
For the front cover I was lazy and wasn't in a mood to pull out my sewing machine, so I used glue and hand sewing to attach my Lutradur to my red Damask fabric. The top beaded line was done with a sewing stitch, whereas the the bottom line with the word "Spirit" on it was done with thin wire wrapped around at intervals on the hand sewn stitches. That was a lot easier than sewing. When both fabrics were basically attached to each other, I used Mona Lisa size in the larger of the open holes and then when tacky, put down some red variegated gold leaf. |

For the back cover, I pulled out my sewing machine - BIG GRIN. I did various zig zag stitches with red thread to attach the two fabrics together. Didn't use any gold leaf on the back, but wrote the word "Memories" with Prisma colors and outlined with a micron pen adding white shading with a white Inkssentials pen. |

The covers are book board, with a layer of quilt batting adhered to it, then the fabric layer is stretched onto it, so the covers have a very nice soft feel to them. I used a coptic binding technique with 4 ply red waxed linen thread.

Each of the 12 signatures has 5 pieces of Xerox Premium White 24# paper folded in half to make 20 pages per signature plus a cream toned 65# cardstock covers for a total of 288 writeable pages. I added 4 gold book corners.
