ID: LadyBug
I used book board for the covers and foam core for the pencil holder box. The pencil holder is on the same board piece as the signatures. I added a lid for the pencil box this time, and it also acts as part of the support system for the covers. On the left cover are two dowels (painted gold with a Krylon leafing pen) that slide within those linen hinge tape tabs (painted with Lumiere Burgundy mixed with some Iridescent medium) so that the tip overlaps onto the right hand cover holding the journal closed. The little bulbous section in the middle of the dowel is purple painted twine that was wrapped around the dowel. When the dowel slides back and forth it is prevented from going through the tabs by that bulbous portion.

The
paper is a pretty Brownish purple mulberry printed with gold
ladybugs paper. I used the cream with gold ladybug for the
inside, hence the name.
I used 6 signatures of 6 pages each. The covers of the signatures are a purple scrapbook paper, alternating between a light purple and a deep purple. Each signature has 2 pages of Canson Drawing (72lb) paper, 1 page of Canson watercolor paper (90lb) and 2 pages of Canson Classic Cream drawing paper (90lb). These papers are good for pencil or pen and ink work as well as pastel and charcoal. I bound the book using 2 ply purple waxed linen thread. The signatures were not sewn to the actual covers but to a piece of cream Stonehenge cardstock and that have wings to slip into pockets created on the inside covers, so it is a free moving journal that moves with the way the book is opened. (it's probably a good way to continue using the covers, just change the journal pages). I also covered 2 pencils with the same paper. |
