ID: Memories (2 needle Coptic)

Journal  (closed): approx 4"w x 5.25"h x 1.25" thk.

This is another of the Mary Kaye Seckler projects in "Book Arts - Beautiful Bindings for Handmade Books". I changed the size and and a lot of the detailing.

For the cover, I used a 50/50 mix of Sculpey & Fimo black on the widest setting of my pasta machine. I impressed it with a Bamboo stamp (All Night Media #365j) and a word stamp "Memories" (K&Co Elizabeth Brownd foam set), punched in my holes and baked it for 20 minutes. When cooled I painted the cover with copper Lumiere and when dry sponged on some Golden Acrylic Cobalt Teal, wiping off in areas. When dry I used various shades of metallic rub on with my finger and wiped excess away. Sprayed it with a couple of coats of Crystal Clear. (see detail pics below)

For the back cover I used book board, painted with the same colors as the cover.

The instructions called for 1 color thread, but I wanted to pick up the copper and the teal colors, so I used 2 strands for each binding.  I used a Wonderfil metallic rayon thread. I love the look, but it was a bit thick for a 2 thread binding and rayon doesn't hold a knot, so I had to put a dab of glue on each final knot. (Next time I will find another area to tie off the threads and put beads on them as a finishing touch. But this time I was down to my finger tips for tying, almost ran out...

10 signatures of 5 pages each

The signatures were  4 pages of Magna Carta "Parchment" natural and then a cover sheet in their gold.

PS: my signatures were perfect this time. Really looked like a block of pages. I was happy. This binding is really easy as well and i like the way it opens flat. I will use it again.
