This is my submission for the Vamp Stamp Magazine for the August 2010 issue with the theme of "Summer Vacation (not the usual)".

I love the the ocean and just relaxing, smelling the sea air.

On a blank page in your Sure Cuts A Lot (SCAL) software, create a frame from plain rectangles that are approx. 7/10ths thick and the width and length of your finished piece of 5"w x 7"h. The rectangles should be overlapping. Find a black and white or high contrast image of some cattails and use the Trace Image feature. Position it within your frame making sure you have several areas where the image overlaps into the frame for strength. When you're happy, select all items and use the WELD feature. Double check what you will be actually cutting by going into the PREVIEW feature in the Cutter drop down menu. If it's ok, cut out from 110# white cardstock.
Optional: The frame with cattails can be rubber stamped, hand drawn or printed from your computer and hand cut.

Find an image of an Adirondack chair, trace image in SCAL and size to approx 3" square, then cut out from a deep pink cardstock. Fold one of the legs a bit so it will slip into the floor as an anchor later on. You might have to reinforce the fold area of the leg with a piece of thin cotton fabric (or bookbinder's linen hinging tape) and pva glue, and color it to match your cardstock.

Sponge layers of the distress stamp pads (Peeled Paint, Crushed Olive, Forrest Moss & touch of Vintage Photo) using the sponging tool, being careful in the delicate areas not to tear the cattails. Mist and sprinkle water, leave a minute to activate and then dry thoroughly. Rubber stamp your words with Vintage Sepia, then overstamp and off set with the Black Onyx.

Rubber stamp the words "By the Sea" with the black and emboss with the black detail embossing powder.

Ink up your felt with a line of Pool, Sailboat Blue, & Shell Pink and a touch of blender. Streak across your clear plastic once. Continue till you get to the bottom. Then just streak a little on the left, go down a bit and a little on the right and work your way down to the bottom. Add a bit more blender and color if needed, but not too much blender. Quickly touch your plastic in various areas. Let dry a bit and touch again. Don't try to overwork your piece. As a final touch, use a miniscule amount of the Raspberry just to give a hint of the deeper pink. Cut this to 4.75"w x 6.75"h and adhere to back of frame with Sookwang tape. Then adhere a piece of white cardstock and trim down to card size.

Cut a piece of white cardstock to 5"w x 11"h. Score and fold at the 3.5" point and at the 7" point. Adhere the frame piece to the 3.5" front flap.

Cut a piece of white cardstock to approx 5.5"w x 5"h, sponge with Distress stamp pads Old Paper & Frayed Burlap, mist with water, let activate and dry. Run through Cuttlebug with the branches folder so they are horizontal along the 5.5" side. Brayer the high points with a perfect medium pad and emboss with the Distress Antique Linen embossing powder, then brush the embossing to get a nice textural feel like sand. The branch folder makes it look like ripples in the sand.

Position your embossed branches piece on the floor of your card (don't glue down yet). Place your chair on the left side laying flat to make sure when card is closed it won't interfere with the folds. Put a small slit in the embossed branches piece where the folded leg falls and slip under, adhere to back with a dab of glue. Adhere the branches piece to the floor of the card, butting up to the back fold. Trim down to card size. Rubber stamp the quote with the black and press hard so you get good contact on the textured surface.

Put some Squeeze and Roll glue on the cattail heads, sprinkle with some flocking, both colors on each head, press down gently to make sure the flocking has good contact. Let dry and brush off excess.

Punch out the dragonfly from a piece of deep pink Iris Shimmer Sheetz and adhere to one of the cattail heads.

Adhere small shell pieces with Golden's Heavy gel medium in the right corner. Add a couple bird shapes in the sky with a S
harpie.
