Sept - Dots & Stripes Thanks
card
Created: September 12, 2010 A friend came over recently and mentioned making a background similar to a bar code using various papers. I've made similar things - but that was eons ago, so thought I'd do one again. I adhered my strips to a wide piece of double sided tape which was adhered on one side to white cardstock. Then I did a little twist in it. I left a scant space between each decorative strip of paper and when they were all down, sprinkled black embossing powder and heat set.

I punched out a border using the EK Success Deep Edger "Le Circle" punch. What's on the card are the negative pieces (drop outs) from the border. You can see a tutorial on how to get ribbon borders HERE. The white background is something new I tried today. We all have these thin embossing folders that usually come with larger folders and get tossed in a drawer and rarely used... I decided to resurrect them and loaded up a piece of white 5 x 7 cardstock, butting each thin folder next to the other until I couldn't fit anymore. Ran it through my Cuttlebug. Then when it came out used my Scor-It to make embossed lines separating each design. I decided to leave it white (rare for me). I placed a strip of 1" double sided tape on the white background and lay my striped background pieces on it, then sprinkled Ritz micro fine glitter Cool Highlights", burnished well and cleaned off the excess. One of the stripes on the white background reminded me of a lifesaver candy , so I thought I'd write the word "thanks" in it using a black Zig Writer. (almost like thanks you're a lifesaver). I die cut the largest Spellbinders Beaded Oval on Shrink Plastic, then sponged Distress Barn Door. Stamped my quote "No act of kindness..." (Quietfire Design) with Versafine black, and shrunk in my oven. Adhered to card with Golden's Extra Heavy gel medium. The white was layered onto a cool yellow toned cardstock, then onto a bright red card. |
