ID: MC Apr - Glass Mirror card
Created: April 22, 2010 I liked the sketch on the Flourishes Blog so thought I'd play with it. Then checked out a bunch of other challenges and incorporated them into the design. Love the way it turned out.
Flourishes #63 Sketch |

So I started with the color scheme and used my Pan Pastels on some cream toned cardstock. Rubbed in oranges and browns to get my Burnt Orange color. I cut my colored cardstock into strips to fit my card. On the first strip; I die cut the Tim Holtz butterfly wings from some cardstock and used it as a stencil to sponge Distress stamp pad "Rusty Hinge" onto the strip Middle Strip; Made a pattern for my paper piercing - a curlicue type pattern. (a bunch of it is hidden behind my quote circle - c'est la vie). The third strip; I tore some cardstock to get a jagged edge, then used it as a stencil and sponged the Rusty Hinge Distress color over it. Moved the pattern and did it again. Then ran my strip in my sewing machine and followed the pattern. Attached all three strips to a black cardstock, then stapling them with silver staples I colored black with a Sharpie marker. (took the staples out of the stapler and colored it as a whole unit, let dry completely, then put back in the stapler). My main card is cream toned which I rubber stamped the edges with a checkerboard corner stamp (Quietfire Design) and Distress Rusty hinge and clear embossed. |

Cut my cream circle with an EK Success Orbis Circle cutter at #88. Cut 3 at #83, layered and adhered them on top of each other, placed the larger one on top and ran it through my cuttlebug to get the raised edge (like you get with a Nestabilities). Rubber stamped the quote (Quietfire Design) with Versafine Black Onyx and clear embossed it. Sponged a bit of Pumice Stone around the edges, using the negative portions of the cut outs as a stencil. Mounted the cream circle to a sparkling black circle (DCWV "The Natural" cardstock pack). Stapled the little butterfly charm to the circle aligning the staple with the flourish. The 3D flower piece at the bottom is made from Paper Clay in a Sculpey Flexible push mold "Summer Floral", when dried, colored with some Pebbles Pearlescent chalks. Punched out the Dragonfly (Paper Shapers), from some leftover orange cardstock and then from a piece of the black, layered them on top of each other, then colored the body in black and added the amber half pearls.
