ID: MC July - Dies - Figs card
Created: July 17, 2010 This week's challenge over at Created By Hand is the theme "Look In Look Out" or "Dies". I guess you can gather which I chose... I used Spellbinder's Label 5 die. Love the petal shapes in the bottom layer. And then another one called for a tree and I really wanted to use my Fig rubber stamps from Flourish (I LOVE FIGS), then the color combo was from another, a little weird, but I absolutely love the way it pops, especially in real life, the background has a more rosy bright pink tone. My first order of business was to cut out a bunch of Label 5 die cuts (2nd size down) from white cardstock, then dry embossing them. I cut them in half and then cut the scalloped pointed section at 40 degree angle. Put them back under the die to sponge color on (Spun Sugar and Victorian velvet). I could have sponged my cardstock first, but this gave nice variations of color on the edges. I then assembled them into a circle putting double sided tape at each crack section on this deep Rose toned cardstock, and sprinkled Ritz Micro Fine glitter Rose, burnished well. I then cut out another piece with the same size die and one from the largest die. Embossing, and sponging color on both (Peeled Paint on the largest; Wild Honey & Spiced Marmalade on the other). Stamped my Quote (Quietfire Design) with the Versafine Black Onyx. |

Stamped my Fig branch onto white cardstock and colored with Tombow watercolor markers and a moist waterbrush. The figs were colored with Prisma colors. I then cut around the image and adhered it to my card, part under and part over the center die cuts. I also cut and placed in a different section one of the leaves and one fig. They just didn't fall in the right place... For the ribbon flower, I die cut a felt flower using Tim's Sizzix Tattered Flowers die. Layered it onto a burgundy toned ribbon flower I made and then sewed the layers together and attached an orange button. Wrote in some words at the bottom with a Micron pen "And if there are a couple of Mission Figs... All the better." And finally I added some faux stitching in white with my Inkssentials white pen. |
