I'm creating a bunch of gilded cards as samples for a gilding class I'll be teaching in Aug/09. These are some of the samples. This batch all use Els Van de Burgt Peel Off designs (Spring 2009). She came out with some gorgeous designs and I especially love the leaves. The word sentiments are my calligraphic Peel Offs sold under Els label at ecraftdesigns.com. There are are over a dozen themes with different style lettering on each sheet, and they come in black, white, gold & silver.

Gilding supplies available through Quietfire Design

I started out with a piece of white 110 lb cardstock that I ran through my Zyron (double sided tape will also work) and placed a couple Peel Off leaves down, then using an Evolving images rectangle "Thang" medium size, (love these plexiglass thangs), cut out my rectangle making sure some of the leaves protrude from the rectangle. I used the bullet tip of a Zig black marker to edge the cardstock on the top and the edges, then adhered it to my main olive toned card. Used Mona Lisa size mixed with a dash of yellow gouache (gives a warmer under layer for the gilding plus makes it easier to see where you're placing the size). Used composition gold, then a very thin stylus for the design work. When that was done, applied the size for the green variegated gold leaf. Colored in the leaves with some Tombows and my water brush. I must admit, it's not that easy to use Tombows on cardstock. They dry too quickly to get a nice movement of color. I added a large faux green rhinestone.

I did the same as above except I reversed the area of gold leaf and variegated green leaf.  I added a large faux golden rhinestone.

Similar to the above, except this time it was mounted to a maroon card and I used the back side of Canson's "Biggie" watercolor pad paper, which is smooth. The Tombows work so nicely on the watercolor paper. I then brushed the leaves with some Winsor and Newton iridescent medium. There is also no rhinestone.
