Rachel Yallop - Circles & Squares

Created: January 21, 2023
Modified:

BVCG hosted Rachel Yallop in a ZOOM class today working with circles and squares. I LOVE her delicate calligraphy. While she was teaching I was playing... These 5 pieces are what I created in our 2 hour class. I'm pleased with the results.

each piece is about 5"sq.

Rachel used a compass to create her circles. I prefer to use my Orbis Circle Scissor - no holes in paper and the graduation of lines can be as small as 1mm.

All done on Genoa Bond Calligraphy paper except the one on black.

See below for more info on each piece.

ID: Script - ABC-XYZ

Wrote out the letters using a Juice It Up .04 black pen. (just getting warmed up...)

ID: Script in Blue

Used a 2.4 Parallel pen filled with Ecoline Turquoise Blue ink in a Foundational style.

ID: Circle - Weaver - Think

I LOVE Weaver style writing and thought I'd try writing it in a circle. It worked really well... Love this sarcastic saying...

words: Think it's not illegal yet. I'm thinking

ID: Circle On Black - Fruit Names

In my Stillman & Birn Nova Tri Mixed Media book thought Id do one using Dr Martins Iridescent Bronze ink in pointed pen script writing fruit names in alphabetical order... The inner part of the circle was too weighted by the descenders on the left side so added some curlicues within the circle...

words: apple, bananas, cantaloupe, dates, elderberry, figs (my favorite fruit...), grapes.

and the last one was done in a square... Thought I'd try writing my name.

Pointed pen and Sumi ink.

I really love the way it turned out, even if all my swirls aren't exactly the same size...
