Gemma Black - Retro Deco - Deco Roses

Created: April 26, 2019

ID: Rose Square - Y
Size: 4.25"w x 4.25"h

Love this piece - the image doesn't do it justice... We started with one large letter placed within a 4" square. Then added background details. Some used squares, rectangles, various shapes etc. I wanted to use these deco roses. Created on the less textured side of Canson Mr Biggie 90# CP watercolor paper

Painted with mixes of Burnt Umber, Gold Ochre & Permanent Alizarin Crimson (all Winsor Newton). The dark background is done with QoR Payne's Gray watercolors.

ID: Rose Bud Border
Size: 2.5"w x 6.5"h

This is an unfinished piece. Still have to figure out what other colors I want in the other squares/rectangles. I will probably put a long thin quote on the right side of it. Created on the less textured side of Canson Mr Biggie 90# CP watercolor paper.

The background is the Payne's Gray. Since I was a bit messy in painting, I had to ink between the colors with my pointed pen and the Copic white.

Deco Roses - Variations

ID: Deco Rose Sequence. Put a slight curve to each line.

When coloring put weight of color on either one or two sides (like a shadow) or in corners, rather than coloring the whole rose in one intensity.
