Barbara Close - Trees Workshop |
Created: May 7, 2021 This class was spread out as 1 - 2hour class every week for 4 weeks. 1st weeks class was scrumbling, bare trees and pressure release lettering. I decided to do a different binding rather than Stab Binding which I don't really like. I like everything to lay totally flat... So created top open frame which I slip my artwork into. It can be removed if I want and gives it a nice finished look.

ID: Scrumbling, Bare Trees and pressure release lettering I worked on Arches Text wove to practice. Apply water with a paint brush here and there in tight kind of formation leaving un-wet areas, drop in color, mush around a bit getting light, medium and dark areas. Paint in the trunk in various intensities (not just one tonal value). When foliage is dry add the branches. For the are tree I used dirty water adding some browns and blacks. A couple leaves here and there and a little blue bird - couldn't resist... Wrote the quotes with a 5.b pencil. The 2nd time with a bit more definition in the tree and a tighter cluster of lettering. Still not quite right so will work on it on my final piece. Quote 1: Time spent amongst the trees is never wasted time. Katrina Mayer Quote 2: Trees are poems the earth writes upon the sky. Kahlil Gibran |
ID: Trees Are Poems On Arches 90# HP watercolor paper, I used the same techniques as in the practice session, although for this one I did the pressure release letters with a pointed nib and Sumi ink.
