Pan Pastels Aug 2015

Created: August 26, 2015
Modified:

I will be doing a demo with Pan Pastels at our next Guild meeting in September... I've been having fun playing and experimenting...

I had the Ramblin' around song going through my head lately... so figured I'd better get it down on paper.

This sample shows using pastels on black for a background and using an eraser to create the letters.

I used black Full Spectrum cardstock, a dry baby wipe as my applicator and various purple and red and brown all over, working the pastels in to the cardstock.

Used a "Tombow Mono Zero Elastomer Eraser" which is a rectangular shaped retractable eraser in a pen - Love it - to remove the pastels from my letter shapes, then used a white colored pencil to shadow outline the letters.

White ink (Copic Opaque mixed with H2º) and a Nikko G nib for the funky lettering of the quote.

And another song going round my head... I had wine on my mind. BIG GRIN

This sample shows using Pastels for a background.

On mango colored cardstock and used the baby wipe and yellows and orange pastels in stripes giving just a hint of color. Used a 2.4mm Parallel Pen and Sumi ink and my funky Neuland style of lettering to write the quote.

This sample uses the flat broad edge Sofft cover on an altered glue applicator to create the two toned bamboo shoots.

Then a stripe of the green and the eraser to create the letters, brown colored pencil shadows.

Quote written with a Micron pen.

This sample again shows removing pastels with the eraser.

I used several different yellows and oranges to create the background on white cardstock, just kept blending...

Erasered my letters and shadowed with an orange colored pencil and a regular HB pencil.

The word "sunshine" with a 3.8mm parallel pen and Sumi ink.

This sample shows stamping using an embossing ink and coloring with the pastels as well as lettering with a wet flat edged brush and the pastels.

I inked the stamp with Versamark embossing ink, stamped and using a little sponge applicator, colored the image. Used an eraser to clean up the areas around the image.

The word "Dreams" was done with a flat edge brush and double loaded with a green and ochre pastel, sometimes dry and sometimes with my brush dipped in to water first. Letters outlined with a .05 Copi Multiliner  black pen.

The quote was written with the same pen in my funky monoline style.

I can't remember what I used to write the letters with...  I think it was a small pointy edged sponge on Kraft toned cardstock, outlined with cream toned colored pencil

Again, white cardstock and layered stripes of color, eraser letters shadowed with an HB pencil.

Again working on black cardstock but this time using the Metallics set of pastels, first applying a thin coat from an clear embossing pad (Ranger's "Perfect Medium"). I used the gold, copper, bronze and silver, just applying them here and there randomly.

Used a flat edged paintbrush and Sumi ink to draw the fern leaves, when dry, went over them again using QoR "Iridescent Gold" watercolor paint, then added white details using a Nikko G nib and my mix of Copic white opaque/h2º.

Used the Tombow eraser for the word "Ferns" and then added the white highlights.

Used the same nib and the white to write the text in my funky monoline style.
