Graceful Envelope 2007
This is an addressed envelope I submitted for the Graceful Envelope Contest for 2007. The theme was "Food"
I used Arches 140lb HP watercolor paper and colored pencils. I knew the jelly jar postage stamps were coming available on March 15th, so I decided to use that theme for my envelope. I wanted the impression that I had a ton of cherries dropping into my jelly jar to become jam. After coloring the cherries i scratched in the letters for the words "Graceful Envelope Contest", one letter per cherry. On the older versions of "Mason" jars the word mason is embossed in the glass so I wrote the words "Washington Calligraphers Guild" as if it was part of the glass as well. When I make jam i put a label on the front of my jar so I did the same here putting the address instead of the contents. I added some cherries around the jar for interest. On the side I wrote the words "Life isn't a bowl of cherries, it's a jar of cherry jam" using a purple Zig marker. Now all I have to do is wait to see the results of the contest. That's the hardest part. |
