ID: J.R. Tolkien
Mailing Due Date: Jan 9th, 2008 I love JR Tolkiens "The Hobbit" and "Lord of the Rings" I remember reading it probably 30 or 35 years ago. So there was no decision to be made. Had to do something with him. Gollum is my favorite character. In my younger days, I collected several of the characters from these stories and still have them on my shelf in amongst my mushroom collection. The image of Gollum here is from one of those sculptures. I used a heavy weight black cardstock and colored in my Gollum figure with colored pencils adding some green to his skin color, then mixed a small batch of Golden's Molding Paste with some Luminarte powders (Jasper Red & Nutmeg) and smeared it onto my cardstock and used a paint brush to dab between his fingers. When dry, I glued on some green moss. Gives the illusion of his slimy self and rocky island. Added clear rhinestones for his eyes and a light blue rhinestone on his finger.

I added words from the book "Hobbit" using a small quill type nib and Dr Martins bleed proof white mixed with some water. Quote: "Bless us and splash us, my preciousss! I guess it's a choice feast; at least a tasty morsel it'd make us, Gollum!" and when he said Gollum he made a horrible swallowing noise in his throat. That is how he got his name though he always called himself "My Precious".

I made a mini booklet tied to the cardstock with 2 ply waxed
linen "chocolate" thread. (Luckily I ordered every color Suzanne -
Quietfire Design - carries, so I always have the right color). On the inside
front cover I added one of the riddles. On the back I also added a riddle along
with my particulars. The riddles were done with bleed proof white andthe answers
with Twinkles H20's interference green
Riddle front: An eye in a blue face saw an eye in
a green face. "That eye is like to this eye" said the first eye,
"But in low place not in high place".
Riddle on Back: A box without hinges, key or lid, yet golden
treasure inside is hid.
