Quotation  DecoVl: Pages for Julie

Julie supplied pages that were a silver lightly textured foil on one side and white semi gloss on the other type cardstock. I must admit it was a challenge. Not easy to to do calligraphy on the silver foil side and I didn't want to obscure the silver foil. I also at the time wasn't in a mood to do butterflies. So I created a technique background page I recently learnt which I cut up. On page 1, I cut the background design into waves and wrote my quote in between. On page 2, I cut up my background page into a central square and smaller squares at the corners writing my quote as a border around the central square.

The background technique I used is very easy to create. I used 90lb Canson CP watercolor paper. Smeared a layer of Rheotech white gesso and while wet drizzled Golden's Stainless Steel, smooshed that around a bit, then drizzled some gold 3D fabric paint and smooshed that a bit as well. Let it all dry. Then using a wet on wet watercolor technique, I painted it with Holbein's "Peacock Blue" & "Opera" (love these colors).

There was a page that wasn't used by someone which would have been awkward, so I decided to do an extra side to make everything even again. This is also several weeks later and I'm finally in the mood to do butterflies again. This was one of the white semi gloss sides and my watercolor pencil was just sliding all over the place, not being absorbed at all. The red flower is mottled , but I don't mind the end result at all. I used a micron black pen to color in the wings of the butterfly (Ceylon Tree Nymph) as well as to write the quote.

I mimicked the butterfly on page 3  using a mixture of FW Black India Ink and Dr Martin's Iridescent Black. I used a rubber stamp (Stampendous, Perfectly Clear Stamps, Pressed Flower set) and Dew Drops Rocket Red Gold (love this stamp color) and stamped it multiple times to create the flower the butterfly is sitting on.

I used Canson 90lb CP watercolor paper and painted my butterfly and leaf. Cut it out using the contour of the butterfly. Added my particulars on the back and used similar colors on the back. Threaded in some ribbons.
