Wings DecoV for Suzanne C:
I covered the cardstock with crinkled salmon colored tissue paper using Golden soft gel medium. Let dry. Painted a coat of Dr PH Martin Gold, Let dry, then a coat of Bronze, let dry then FW acrylics Sepia, let dry. I then lightly sanded it to reveal the hidden layers beneath. (I've never tried this technique before but read about something very similar in the "Penland Book of Handmade Books). I scanned and printed a fairy onto salmon tissue paper, and again with gel medium adhered it to the page (see close up below). I colored in the wings with Pearlescent inks in various colors and re-outlined the image in a slightly heavier black ink. I punched out letters onto a piece of thin copper and then heated it with a flame until I got the streaky colors (see close up below) and attached it to the page with gel medium. The words: Fairies have wings too The booklet and the background is something I recently picked up in Christine Ahmad's class. (see close ups below) I used Arches text wove paper. I put a wash of Naples Yellow, when dry I painted only on the upper portion of the paper with very wet paint and allowed the paint to drip down, helped also with a bit of extra water. I used Caput Mortuum Violet, Burnt Sienna, Gambouge Hue & more Naples Yellow. When slightly less wet, I turned the page so the bottom was now the top and repeated the above technique. When totally dry I did a similar background to the back of the paper. When that was dry I tore out my strips to create pages and enhanced each by outlining the light areas with black ink. I also edged the pages with metallic copper. I folded the pages varying the heights to create the step pages. I used thin copper wire bound around a couple of pieces of bamboo skewers which I painted with brown and copper. I then added my embellishments of fibers, beads and feathers. I found a poem about friendship fairies. Words: |
