"Gold - Bow HB" card This weeks theme is the color Gold. I came across the construction of making this bow on one of the latest online newsletters to sprout up called Papers & Pixels . The December issue which is the one that hooked me, was excellent. They made the bow out of double sided paper. I tried it and it worked, but I figured considering the 3D of the bow, it would get crushed in the mail and not pop up again, so I decided to try one from ribbon... I wanted to play a bit with my Spellbinders dies cutting them all at once from various papers and then reassembling them with the different colors etc. This one used the first part of this adventure, but then I veered off and layered it onto double sided tape and glitter. I'm also using my favorite Happy Birthday rubber stamp by (Quietfire Design.) |
So the basic instructions for the bow are: cut 8 pcs of paper 3/4"w x 6" long, 4 x 5" long and 1 by 4" long. The 1 piece replaces the flower I have in the center and is glued to create a circle. The others are glued to their ends in an overlapping twist. Then holes punched in those ends and then layered and held together with a brad. Instead I made mine with 1/2" ribbon 8 x 4.5", 4 x 3.5" and the Sakura punched flower from some gold paper. I didn't bother gluing the ends, I just punched my holes, and started loading them on to the dark amber large rhinestone brad. Worked just fine that way. As I mentioned I cut my ovals, these were from cream toned cardstock, the glitter is a mix of all my discards and has a nice tone to it - figured might as well start using it up. It's assembled into a burgundy rectangle, then the whole assembly is embossed with the Happy Birthday Cuttlebug folder. Layered on to a gold Precious Metals cardstock and on to the main cream toned card. I stamped the sentiment with Aged Mahogany Distress, clear embossed and cut it out with points, then layered it to the gold and onto the card. Added 3 small gold half pearls and 3 larger half pearls near the ovals. |
