I've been wanting to do a birdcage for a while now, not necessarily as a card, but that's what I created this time.

I found a basic birdcage image on the net, altered it and cut it out with my Cricut. I then covered it with black pigment ink and thermal embossed with Holographic embossing powder.

I cut another birdcage (solid image) for the back from cream cardstock, and used the first one as a stencil to lightly sponge color to the inside with Distress stamp pads. I rubber stamped the birds (Martha Stewart 2 bird stamp set) inking parts of the stamp only where needed with Versafine Black Onyx and clear embossed it. Then colored them with colored pencils. Then sponged more Distress colors, using the the fall out pieces as masks. I added very small amber faux rhinestones for the eyes.

I used the Spellbinder's Borderabilities Lattice Border and die cut if from some cream cardstock, inking it with black and embossing with holographic. Adhered one to the front and one to the back of the card with double sided tape. On the front I added Ritz Glitter micro fine glitter Dark Gold in the little holes.

Attached the front to the back at the top, but found it became very week, so added a piece of linen hinging tape on the inside. Also added a second solid image birdcage to the back of the card to add strength.

The inside back of the front was also inked with black and embossed with the holographic.

I rubber stamped part of the quote "Real Love Stories" (Quietfire Design) with Distress Walnut Stain and clear embossed it on the bottom of the card. It's hidden when the card is closed.

And finally added a red rickrack tie.
