Quilling - Fringing  (April 2009)

Created: April 19, 2009

Well another quilling class under my belt, this one was Fringing taught by Doreen. I love fringing. BIG GRIN. The ATCs below use some of the fringing techniques I learnt in this class. There was more I learnt , but that's for another batch in the future.

The first 3 are the first ones I did. I love these types of flowers. I had problems in class with the curled fringe. Low and behold I was curling it backwards - no wonder I was having problems. But even doing them the right way, they're not easy. I used a gold parchment stationary paper and colored it with Pan pastels and added a thin bead of glitter before fringing and creating the flower shape. Then added some stickles in the centers. They were mounted to a bright yellow cardstock and then onto a purple cardstock. The leaves were done with a metallic dark green quilling paper. The words were written with a purple Stardust gel pen.

The next two ATCs are a different fringing technique. Whereas the one above uses a triangular piece of paper, the one on the left is straight paper creating little pompom shapes or Dianthus type flowers. Done with a lilac pearlized quill paper and some of the centers are yellow qui9lling with a touch of stickles. The word was written with two shades of lilac/purple gel pen on a medium toned blue cardstock and mounted to a med toned purple.

The one on the right is done on pink cardstock and mounted to the same blue. The word is written with a blue gel pen. These flowers are made with folded in half lengthwise quilling paper and cut at an angle and then when forming the flower, the shapes open up (or are supposed to). Some did and some didn't so have to force them open. Will take some practice.

The next two ATCs are a little special and will have to wait a while for me to let you know what I did for the central square...

But the flower is made with a gold metallic quilling paper. I put the blue paper through my Cuttlebug with the "mesh" embossing folder. Mounted them to bright yellow cardstock and then to either a bright green or a bright red cardstock. The words (Quietfire Design) are rubber stamped with Versafine blue stamp pad. I love the off center tilted design.
