Straw Art (May 2009)

A friend on the Quietfire design team just uploaded a beautiful card and she used such a simple technique for the background. I was in a mood to play and these are the results. The batch at the bottom of the page are basically the first backgrounds I did, but wasn't very happy with them so put them aside while I created more. They had some alcohol ink stuff on them that I didn't like, so I thought I'd camouflage them with some Ecoline inks, blowing patterns with the straw. Turned out really boring... But then ended up ok when I added the black sections done with a Pentel black mini brush. Mounted them to coordinating cardstocks. The one in the middle is just one ATC that didn't follow the straw art pattern, I just drew some thick black lines with an Identipen, then colored it in with Alcohol inks and a mini water brush filled with some blending solution. With the top bunch, I started out with blobs of Moon Palace Sumi Black ink and blowing with a straw, creating all kinds of web patterns. When dry I colored in portions with Copic markers, then added my blurb. They're all mounted to vibrant colored cards. I love the graphicness of them. |

This is the odd man out done with the Identipen, Alcohol Inks and Blender solution in a mini water brush.
